About half an hour north of Beaumes-de-Venise, Vaison-la-Romaine is a tale of two towns. The old, Roman town with narrow streets climbing up a steep hill to the ancient citadel with fantastic views across the Rhone valley or south to the Dentelles and the new(er) town across the river with charming, Provençal streets and ambience and a very good Tuesday market that winds through the heart.
