Drive to Suzette and park in the car park there. Leave on the road up to your right, direction Malaucène. After 250 m turn left at the Cougne à Bagnes signpost towards La Bori. (Also the way to the excellent domaine Ferme Saint-Martin).
After 100 m, at the La Bori signpost, take the small, centre track upwards signposted to Crête de St Armand (2.2 km). After a fairly short climb turn left at the tarmac road, signpost Mont Saint Amant (sic). Proceed on the level a short way and then start to climb again.
At the intersection following take the path in front and go up behind the last house of the village. Once up behind the house, go along left – great views of les Dentelles de Montmirail. 200 m further up, fork right and at the end of the forest continue straight on. (Follow the blue markers; don’t go along any path with a blue cross).
At the Les Clapas signpost go right (Le Crestet) then just 20 m after this take the small path to your left onto the forest (marked with unofficial sign Crête/Crestet). This climbs all the way to the summit, passing below a Télécom building, Top marked by a plinth and an iron cross. Stupendous views of Suzette, les Dentelles, Le Barroux, Mont Ventoux and out to the Rhone valley and les Cévennes.
Easiest return is just to retrace steps above. Alternatively, for a longer and slightly more adventurous full circuit, follow instructions below.
Leave the cross going down and to the right along past the telecoms antennae. After just over 200 m take a left on to a narrow path to the left and into some woods. This is a relatively small path along the crest; there is a blue circle marker at the start and a blue cross on the main track to help you spot the turn off. This path is a bit more challenging than usual with some scrambling down rocky parts. Well worth it for the views of le Haut Vaucluse, le Nyonsais and les Baronies. Probably not suitable if you have a baby!
Down a last slope and there is a four-way intersection. To get your bearings, the La Pousterie signpost is about 5 m to your left, but you want to take the path to your right towards Malaucène and Combe Fréu (0.4 km). There is a wooden post on your left with blue and yellow markers. The going is easier now.
In the woods, at the Combe Fréu signpost, take a right to Suzette (2.8 km). You are on the home stretch.
At the Le Partifiage signpost take the right track to Suzette (2.4 km). You will soon see the Le Barroux château well out on your left. Continue downwards with a left at the intersection. You reach a fine vineyard, pass left down the side of this and soon the track becomes a tarred road. Follow this down to the village.
About 11 km in all but at least 3 hours, probably nearer 4.
