Between Beaumes and Lafare, is Domaine de Coyeux. The signposting does not necessarily single it out as anything grand, but the automatic gates and long driveway cofirm the scale and ambition of this estate! This larger (some 100 hectares) Domaine has undergone significant transformation and building works since changing hands six years ago, and has ambitions to be a function venue and general centre of wine tourism, as well as ‘just’ a Domaine. We tried seven wines here – a white, a rosé, three reds and two Muscats – dessert wines to die for . We recommend their 2012 “Les Cavares” Beaumes de Venise (rouge) and their gold-medal winning vintage Muscat.
Following David and Mel’s write-up above, later in the summer we went to a very enjoyable evening event comprising, in the open air, music, wine-drinking and plates of delicious cheese and charcuterie. The views from this estate are stunning as it is up in the hills close to the Dentelles de Montmirail. Perhaps this is the start of its ‘ambitions to be a function venue’ as two such events have been held recently, one in June and the one we attended in July. Would certainly recommend it for a simple but elegant soiree. A plate of food for two people cost 15 euros and the rose we drank 12 euros a bottle.
