Lafare – Suzette Circuit

Tremendous views of the Dentelles and beautiful chapel at Suzette. About 10km. (Ston – recommend boots and poles).

Park in the car park at Lafare. Walk past the Place de la Fontaine and turn right as if going up to La Roque-Alric. After about 80m there is a set of steps with a rope handrail on your left and a yellow sign to Suzette. Climb the steps and then the steep, stony path. This levels out at the crest on to a broad, pleasant path with great views to both sides.

Follow the ridge and the yellow and blue markers. After about one kilometre there is a crossroads; go slightly right and then straight on (the middle of the three options; there’s a rock to your right with a yellow cross and a tree to the left with a blue cross – go almost straight across). Shortly after there is another crossing of slightly bigger paths; go up to the right and on to Suzette.

Very pretty and well-kept chapel at the entrance to Suzette with an interesting tableau of pottery figures (Santons – figurines provençale ornant les crèches de Noël). There’s also a small restaurant, La Table de Suzette. Walk through the village bearing right on the road to Malaucène then turn left at the sign to La Ferme St Martin. Resist the temptation to go to the domaine and, after a short climb up the road, go left at the sign to Chateau-Neuf-Redortier. Easy walk for about one kilometre.

At C-N-R descend to the left then leave the road on a path to the right behind the houses, bordered by oak trees. Lower down, continue to the left then straight on and a slight climb before a long descent towards Lafare past the domaine of Cassan.

After just over 2 kilometres reach the road, turn left and, shortly afterwards, there is a plaque up to your left about the chapel Saint-Christophe. A rather less salubrious example than at Suzette but worth the climb up – about 5 minutes  – for the view. Return to the road and go down to Lafare, just over 2 kilometres.
